Non-photograph printing: The Konica Minolta 4750dn has been a great print machine for us. For things like printing flyers, or brochures this little inexpensive laser printer gets the job done. With affordable toner, this printer is what you want.

Photograph Printing: When we need to get prints out in a hurry and can’t get them to our lab, the Epson R2880 doesn’t sacrifice quality for speed. Perfect for fast prints at lab quality.

Camera: The dSLR Canon 7D is our camera of choice currently. With interchangeable lenses, hot-shoe mount, and accessories available this is the must have camera at a reasonable price for any professional photography studio.

We’re going to be using our point and shoot camera for this, because its what you are most likely to have. Right now we’re using the Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD. A great point and shoot camera with features of most professional camera’s. If that is a little out of your price range, check out the Canon Powershot A3300 16 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Black) for a great camera.

Tip 1: Shooting Flowers

If you’re going to be shooting flowers, don’t use a flash. The flash on most point and shoot camera’s will greatly overexpose the petals of flowers leaving them lifeless and void of any colors. When shooting a flower its good to get down on the same plane the flower is on. Everyone always see’s a flower from the top down, but most people hardly see them from eye level. This is where you want to capture your frame, and blur the background by using a low f-stop (2.4). Do not be afraid to get close to your flower, they generally don’t bite!

Tip 2: Shooting Sports.

It’s the season where sports starting moving outdoors. Baseball is around the corner, track and field is starting, and everyone is outside moving! To capture a moving object and leave the background blurred, you’ll want to speed your shutter up to around 250 or faster. (500 preferably) and capture the subject in motion. This is also a great trick if your subjects surroundings are moving, but the subject is stagnant.

Tip 3: Dress warm and be prepared!

Spring means the seasons are changing, but the weather can rapidly change from hour to hour. You want to make sure you have the appropriate weather gear for your climate and that you can protect your camera and lenses. The good thing about the point and shoots recommended above, you can tuck them away in your pocket for safe keeping.

What to bring for kids and pets…
We love photographing children and pets, so if you’re bringing yours to the studio, be sure to bring along some toys for them. After all, all work and no play make for boring photographs.

What to bring for couples…
If you’re a couple coming in for a shoot, you may want to bring some clothing changes, make up, hair products, stylish accessories etc. Don’t forget any items you want to capture your personality better!

What to bring for groups…
Don’t forget to bring everyone! It’s difficult and time consuming to photoshop people in that aren’t there. We’re very flexible schedule wise so if someone can’t make it let us know.

Other things to consider to get the most out of your shoot are…

• If you’re bringing a group, coordinate all the colors. Making sure everyone has sort of a uniform look is the best way to get great group shots.
• Avoid super bright colors like red and yellow. While you may look great in these, they generally cast ugly tones on your skin that are hard to correct.
• If you wear glasses, get some frames with no lenses.
• Don’t worry about braces and be sure to smile BIG! If you don’t want braces in your photo we can remove them when you order!
• Come organized! Know what you want and expect from your photography session. We aren’t mind readers so your vision of a great photo is probably different than ours. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want!

• Organize your guests, and important people so they know to stick around to get photographs after the ceremony.
• If you want outdoor shots done be sure to have a location picked out before hand to save precious time.

• Avoid clothes that match your skin color. These colors will literally drain the color from your skin and make you look washed out.
• Bring a variety of colors and styles.
• Don’t forget the small things. We take pictures close-up, 3/4 length and full length so don’t forget shoes and maybe some accessories.
• Bring your achievements, cars, pets, friends or whatever you want in with you.
• Don’t be shy! We want you to look and feel comfortable so if there is something you want to do let us know!

• Talk to your parent and schedule a time thats good for you! Don’t come in all stressed out the day before a big game, or test. We work had to make sure you have a convient time.
